Applications for the 2021-2022 GEMS program year are now being accepted. G.E.M.S. (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) is a Delta-sponsored program that assists young ladies between the ages of 14 and 18 with educational, cultural, and interpersonal growth. The Scholarship Committee annually awards scholarships to accomplished local high school students seeking higher education from an accredited four-year university. Scholarship recipients are rewarded for their commitment to scholastic achievement, community service, and leadership. Applicants are encouraged to express personal experiences that have shaped their lives and future educational or career goals.
The San Antonio Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is accepting applications for $1,000.00 Delta scholarships that will be awarded to African-American female applicants who are graduating high school seniors. Applications and the selection criteria are:
- A graduating high school senior with a grade point average of 2.5 (4.00-point grading system), 1.5 (3.00-point grading system), or a 2.75 grade point average or above.
- Excels academically and displays leadership abilities in the classroom and community.
- Provides proof of high school enrollment in the fall and/or spring sessions. (All applicants must reside in and attend schools within San Antonio, Texas).
We ask your assistance in disseminating the applications to qualified candidates by online means as this is a fillable application. Handwritten applications will NOT be accepted. The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy was established under the leadership of Marcia L.
Fudge, the 21st National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. as a way of
developing new purpose, new skills, and new leaders from the ranks of 11- to 14-year-old
young women. Recognizing that many of today’s young women do not have the
opportunities to fully develop their personal and academic potential, the San Antonio
Alumnae Chapter, of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. seeks to offer supervised and
structured experiences that will help participants grow to be productive citizens with high
self- esteem and an appreciation for the demands of an increasingly technological society.
The Academy usually meets on the first Saturday of the month, unless noted otherwise on the
Delta Academy calendar.
