What: Documentary Film- Push Out: Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools by Monique Morris with a
short-facilitated Q & A to follow
When: Tuesday, October 11, 2022, 9:30- 11:30 a.m.
In observance of 10th Annual International Day of the Girl Child
Where: St. Philip’s College – Watson Fine Arts Center
Who Should Attend:
• Educators – school personnel serving as counselors, family & community liaisons, principals and vice Principals,
conduct officers, school social workers, special education staff, teachers
• Parents of school aged children
• Religious Community – pastors, youth pastors, youth directors and youth ministry leaders
• Students – middle and high school students
• College students – all college students with special emphasis on students enrolled in classes or majoring in the
following areas: Education, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Social Work,
• Community leaders and members of Divine Nine, social and civic organizations,
• Elected officials and support staff working with children
• Concerned Citizens – if you care about our children, quality education, and want to reduce the school to prison
pipeline
• Everyone with a pulse!
Why You Should Attend:
• Nearly 1 in 4 girls aged 15–19 globally are not in education, employment or training, compared to 1 in 10
boys
• Girls around the world continue to face unprecedented challenges to their education, their physical and
mental wellness, and the protections needed for a life without violence
• Girls in San Antonio and Bexar County face similar challenges to which this programming can help bring
awareness and start the dialogue of what strategies can be adopted and implemented to change the
trajectory of girls of color in our community.
• Learn and share strategies to slow down and reduce the number of girls in the San Antonio and
surrounding area being “pushed” into the criminal justice system
• Because you CARE about our children, the community, and the sustainability of both
